A beautiful day in Cortona, thanks to our friend Alessandro Frattini — the almost mayor himself (lol ), and the best hairdresser in town. He recommended the Osteria del Teatro after Lori’s hair and nails appointment, and even called ahead so a glass of prosecco was waiting when we walked in.
The lunch was unforgettable. We started with porcini carpaccio over arugula, then zucchini flowers stuffed with ricotta, followed by tagliolini with duck ragù. For the main course, I had the baccalà grogiato — lightly fried and served on a green fava purée with capers — and yes, I’m not a big fish person, but this was genuinely delicious. Lori had the monkfish, which I also tasted and loved. We finished with tiramisu and a couple of wonderful local wines, including the Biccico 2023 and the Il Castagno Syrah Cortona.
We’d been to this restaurant about fifteen years ago and barely remembered it — this meal made up for that completely. Relaxing, delicious, and the kind of afternoon you don’t want to end.
And a special note: Alessandro and his wife are expecting their second boy any minute now. Congratulations in advance — we can’t wait to hear the news!
